SoCal Milkman May Be Forced To Cease Delivery Over Rising Gas Prices
SANTA ANA (CBS) – A local man's old-fashioned business is being spoiled by a modern day problem. Jimmy Pastor has had a milk delivery company for 32 years, but the recent spike in gas prices threatens to shut him down.
"I have no control over this and it's a bad feeling," says Pastor. "It's a part of Americana, and I don't want it to leave."
Wearing a white uniform and milkman's hat, Pastor's appearance is a throwback to a simpler time.
Pastor and his wife built their business from the ground up. Today Rockview Milk has 15 trucks, delivering to 5,000 customers between San Clemente and Santa Monica.
Rising gas prices previously forced Rockview to cut back deliveries from twice to once per week.
"All the sudden the gas has hit us," says Pastor. "And it's one of our biggest expenses."
Pastor says he's heartbroken to admit the recent climb in SoCal gas prices has him considering pulling the plug on his passion for good.
"They say it's not how many times you get knocked down; it's how many times you get up," says Pastor. "And I'm tired of getting up."
SoCal gas prices that were already at record highs have risen almost every day over the past month.
