SoCal Betting On Super Weather For Sunday
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Warmer temperatures are on the way for Southern California, but the National Weather Service says snow and ice will still be on the ground on Super Bowl Sunday when the Green Bay Packers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas.
Offshore winds that made almost the entire month of January seem like summer in the Southland are to credit for the balmy conditions. Much of the rest of country, however, has snow on the ground.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Oxnard predict Southern California highs in the upper 60s and low 70s Saturday and expect temperatures to warm up Sunday.
A breeze out the north and northeast should be noticeable in the valleys and foothills, especially below canyons and passes where gusts up to about 35 mph are possible.
Back in Dallas, the teams will play under the retractable roof at Cowboys Stadium, where falling ice Friday sent six workers to the hospital. Most stadium entrances were closed as a precaution. Officials raised the temperature inside the arena in an attempt to melt remaining ice.
