Smoke Advisory Issued For Portions Of Riverside, OC Counties
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have issued a smoke advisory for portions of Riverside and Orange counties as winds push smoke into the area from multiple fires burning in San Diego County.
Unhealthy air quality conditions are likely to persist throughout Saturday in the Temecula, Anza, Lake Elsinore and Perris areas, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Air quality is likely to be unhealthy for sensitive groups in all of the O.C., areas in and around Riverside, Hemet, Banning and throughout the Coachella Valley, and western Los Angeles County.
As the sea breeze strengthens through the afternoon, "smoke is likely to ... impact inland areas throughout the South Coast Air Basin at times," according to the agency.
SCAQMD gave the following suggestions:
- Avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion.
- Those with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should remain indoors.
- Keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter.
- Run your air conditioner if you have one, but make sure it's on "circulation" mode so air isn't being sucked in from the outside.
- Do not use a swamp cooler or whole-house fan to prevent bringing additional smoke inside.
- To avoid worsening the health effects of wildfire smoke, don't use indoor or outdoor wood-burning appliances, including fireplaces.
