Plane Crashes In Glendale Neighborhood
GLENDALE (CBS) — A six-seat, single-engine plane returning from Phoenix has crashed in a Glendale neighborhood.
The pilot of the Cessna 210 reported having engine problems near El Monte and told air traffic controllers that he would try to make it to Van Nuys Airport.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Glenwood Road near Grandview Avenue.
The plane cut through power lines, causing an outage for 30 square blocks. It was unclear when power would be restored.
The pilot, identified as a 55-year-old man, was the only person on board.
He was initially treated on scene by first responders and was reportedly complaining of a shoulder injury.
The man was transported by Glendale Fire to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.
Sky9's Derek Bell, who was flying overhead, reported that those north of the aircraft were being evacuated as authorities were trying to contain 55 gallons of aviation fuel on board the aircraft.
Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department asked that Glendale residents stay away from the area and refrain from touching any debris at the scene.
