Slick Roads, Big Rig Crashes Snarl Morning Commute
SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) — Even with many Southern Californians already off work and school in advance of the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Monday's morning commute was snarled due to weather-related crashes.
Big rigs and trucks went down throughout the region, and flooding was reported on at least two downtown Los Angeles freeways.
At least two SigAlerts on the 91 and 10 Freeways were resolved by 6 a.m. Monday, as the morning commute got underway, but two more were declared on the southbound 57 Freeway at Via Verde in San Dimas and the eastbound 210 at Sierra Madre in Pasadena.
Both the latest SigAlerts were due to big rig truck collisions, but the Pasadena incident was a solo crash.
In Calabasas, a mobile home was reported to be fully engulfed in flames on the southbound 101 Freeway at Parkway Calabasas. Three right lanes were expected to be closed through 6:45 a.m.
Flooding was reported in the right lane of the 5 Freeway at the 110 and on the 10 Freeway at Santa Fe Springs in downtown Los Angeles, causing traffic to slow in the area. On the westbound 60 Freeway at Fullerton Road in Rowland Heights, water on the far right shoulder caused one car to spin out and block a lane.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 200 collisions have been reported on Los Angeles County freeways between 9 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday, compared with 30 when it was dry a week ago.
