'Skipper Bandit' Wanted In Series Of Attempted Bank Robberies In San Fernando Valley
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities sought the public's help Thursday to capture a man dubbed the "Skipper Bandit" who has committed a series of attempted bank robberies in the San Fernando Valley.
According to the FBI, the suspect is wanted for robbing a Wells Fargo Bank on Sept. 24 in Los Angeles. The man is also suspected of attempting to rob two Bank of America locations in Canoga Park and North Hollywood, along with a Wells Fargo Bank in Toluca Lake.
Surveillance video captured the suspect wearing sunglasses, a polo-style shirt and a unique fisherman's-style hat during each incident.
Detectives described him as a Caucasian, Hispanic or Armenian man who stands no taller than 5-foot-7 and weighs 250 pounds.
The suspect is believed to be between the ages of 47 and 53-years-old.
Witnesses described him as being overweight with a light complexion and round face, police added.
