Skidding Kings Look To Get Healthy Against Rival Ducks

(AP) -- The slumping Los Angeles Kings are looking for offense. The Anaheim Ducks finally found some the last time out and ended their longest losing streak of the season.

The Kings try to avoid a season-high fourth straight defeat and stop their free fall in the Western Conference when the face the Ducks on Monday night.

After scoring 21 goals during a 6-0-0 stretch from Oct. 28-Nov. 13, Los Angeles has managed 16 in dropping six of seven. The Kings (13-9-0) have four goals during their three-game skid.

"The bottom line is, we're not getting enough on a consistent basis to give ourselves an opportunity to find those second and third opportunities, or we're getting shots and the traffic's not there," coach Terry Murray told the Kings' official website. "Scoring is something, we've got to make it happen, we have to pay a price in order to score sometimes."

The Kings had 22 shots in a 2-1 home loss to Chicago on Saturday.

Los Angeles, losers of five of seven on the road, led the Western Conference following a 4-3 shootout win at Boston on Nov. 20. Its slide has left it in ninth place, one point ahead of 11th-place Anaheim (11-11-3).

"So we're going through this slump right now, and the only way to get out of it is for everyone to pull together and work hard and pull ourselves out of it," said captain Dustin Brown, who has no points in the last four games. "Right now, our work ethic needs to be a lot better."

Murray is looking for more scoring from Brown, Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar, who have totaled four goals in the last seven games.

While Murray's top forward unit isn't producing, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle saw his top line break out for 10 points in a 6-4 victory at Phoenix on Saturday.

Bobby Ryan recorded his second career hat trick, Corey Perry added a goal and two assists and captain Ryan Getzlaf had a season-best four assists, helping Anaheim overcome a two-goal second-period deficit and end a six-game losing streak.

The trio contributed nine points as Anaheim scored 10 goals during the slide.

"I would say our penalty killing bailed us out, and then our big guys that get paid all the money scored some goals for us," said Carlyle, whose team held the Coyotes scoreless on five of six power-play chances.

Taking on their Pacific Division rivals for the first time this season, the Ducks will likely face Jonathan Quick. He has gone 1-3-0 with a 2.98 goals-against average in his last four starts after opening the season 10-1-0 with a 1.53 GAA.

Quick was pulled in the Kings' last game in Anaheim, a 5-4 shootout victory April 6, after giving up three goals on eight shots. He is 0-1-1 with a 3.28 GAA in his last three appearances against the Ducks after going 5-0-0 with a 2.60 GAA in his first five matchups with them.

If Carlyle gives Jonas Hiller the nod, the Ducks goaltender will look to snap his team's three-game losing streak at Honda Center. Hiller, who started all three contests, is 5-2-0 with a 1.85 GAA at home against Los Angeles.

Anaheim has given up four goals in each of its last four games.
