Sisters Go On Fullerton Crime Spree, Ends With Suicide
FULLERTON (CBS) — One sister is dead by her own hand and her younger sister is in jail after the pair went on a crime spree in Fullerton.
Police say a pair of sisters committed armed robbery Sunday at Sophie's Dog Shop and Barkery, 915 Starbuck, before carjacking a man driving through the parking lot and forcing him to drive them away from the shopping center, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said told the Orange County Register.
But before police could safely apprehend the pair, 22-year-old Calen Kawakami, of Fullerton, shot herself in the head, in front of her younger sister, 18-year-old Kimiki Gomi of Huntington Beach, and the carjacking victim, according to CBS2/KCAL9's Michele Gile.
Gomi faces robbery, kidnapping and burglary charges and is scheduled to be in court on Oct. 15.
The driver was uninjured.
Goodrich says Sunday's robbery was the first the sisters carried out, but Gile reported that Kawakami has a criminal history.
