Singer El DeBarge Arrested After Alleged Drug Deal In Encino
ENCINO (CBS) — Singer El DeBarge faces drug charges after Los Angeles police reportedly saw him participating in an alleged drug deal in Encino.
DeBarge, who was booked as Eldra Patrick DeBarge, was arrested Monday at 2 p.m. DeBarge was released the next morning after posting $30,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 9.
Undercover narcotics officers were conducting an investigation near White Oak Avenue and the 101 Freeway when they spotted the 50-year-old Grammy winner and another man acting suspiciously, LAPD officials told the LA Times.
DeBarge was arrested on suspicion of possession for sale of drugs, while the second man, Curtis Freeman, was arrested on suspicion of attempted drug possession.
DeBarge is best known for the song "Rhythm of the Night," which was a No. 1 hit in 1985.
