Simi Valley Police Investigate Murder-Suicide
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Simi Valley Police are investigating what they called a likely murder-suicide Saturday.
Police were called to a report of "unknown trouble" around 1:38 p.m. to a home in the 2400 block of E. Woodrow Avenue.
Officials said upon arriving, police found a deceased woman and a gravely-injured man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wound.
Authorities said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
A preliminary investigation said the man shot and killed the woman before turning the gun on himself.
The relationship between the man and woman was not revealed.
Officials did say there were four children present in the home. They were physically unharmed.
The children are being watched by neighbors pending the identification and notification of family members.
Neighbors say the man and woman were a couple but told CBS2's Cristy Fajardo they weren't sure they were married.
They told Fajardo the couple moved to Los Angeles about a year ago from Ohio. She was a stay-at-home mom and was extremely friendly, neighbors said.
The couple was having financial trouble and told neighbors they were surprised at how expensive it was to live in California.
One of the children ran to a nearby home to tell them "Mommy is bleeding," according to neighbors.
