Police say attempted kidnapping of high school student in Simi Valley was 'unfounded'
Police said that the attempted kidnapping of a Simi Valley High School student, who claimed she fought off her would-be kidnapper, was unfounded.
According to the Simi Valley Police Department, the alleged attempted kidnapping happened at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Harley's Valley Bowl parking lot which is across the street from the high school.
The student said she was walking across the parking lot when an older white man grabbed her arm and tried to pull her toward him and into his vehicle. However, the student claimed she elbowed the man and ran across the street to her high school where she contacted her mother, school staff and SVPD.
During the preliminary investigation, police found a man that matched the student's description but did not see him contact the student. According to SVPD, officers then showed a picture to the alleged victim and she claimed that it was the same man that tried to abduct her.
However, after detectives took over the investigation and interviewed both the person in the video and the student, they determined that the abduction allegation was unfounded.
