Shriver Family Thankful For Outpouring Of Support, Well Wishes

WASHINGTON (AP) — Relatives of R. Sargent Shriver, an in-law of the Kennedys and the first director of the Peace Corps, say they are touched by the support they've received after his death.

Maria Shriver thanked people for their condolences in a posting on Twitter on Friday. She and her brother, Tim, tweeted that the family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes and support. They invited people to follow live updates on memorial activities on Twitter.

A wake is being held Friday afternoon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, and the funeral is planned for Saturday in Potomac, Md.

Shriver died Tuesday after being hospitalized for several days in his native Maryland. He was 95 and had suffered from Alzheimer's disease since at least 2003.
