Shots Fired At Suspects Speeding Stolen Car At Officers During Huntington Beach Pursuit

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for three suspects who abandoned a stolen vehicle at the end of a chase in the Huntington Harbor area early Sunday.

An officer at 2:50 a.m. tried to stop a 1996 green Honda Accord for a vehicle code violation but the driver sped away, heading westbound on Edinger Avenue near Edwards Street, the Huntington Beach Police Department reports.

While checking the license plate police discovered the Honda was stolen.

Officers followed the vehicle and three suspects, who raced through two stop signs, to the cul-de-sac of Nalu Circle. Officers exited their patrol car and gave commands to the cornered suspects.

The suspect behind the wheel drove toward officers, one of whom fired several shots into the Honda.

The car drove out of the cul-de-sac and fled the area.

That's when air support from the Orange County Sheriff's Department was called in. A helicopter dubbed "Duke" was able to locate the Accord at 4:05 a.m. near Edgewater Lane and Courtney Drive.

Officers on the ground found the vehicle abandoned.

Several patrol units and a K-9 team searched the area but were unable to find the suspects.

No officers were injured in the chase. It was unclear if the suspects were injured during the shooting.

The OCSD is investigating the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen vehicle or suspects is urged to call the Huntington Beach Police Department at (714) 960-8843.
