Shooting Leaves Man Dead In Sherman Oaks Neighborhood, Suspect Arrested
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A man was shot and killed in a Sherman Oaks neighborhood Thursday morning and a second man has been arrested on murder charges.
The shooting occurred just after 5 a.m. in the 12900 block of Hesby Street, according to Los Angeles police.
The suspect, 39-year-old Ethan Wall, the son of a homeowner in the area, was detained at the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police arrived on scene and found a man shot to death inside a car that had crashed into a tree. The victim, a man in his 50s, was not immediately identified.
"I'm not going to lie, it's disturbing," Marc Chasman, a neighbor, told CBSLA.
According to police, the victim was in a gray sedan that was seen on security video driving slowly through the neighborhood in the early morning hours, when Wall, who was armed and happened to be out walking, approached the driver. Police said some sort of confrontation ensued, and Wall shot the driver, who then crashed into a tree.
Police said Wall approached the crashed vehicle and shot the man a second time.
"We were up and we were looking out the windows, we really didn't see anything," neighbor Amanda Karnes said. "We just heard the shots and realized something very close, something dangerous had happened."
Police had initially told CBSLA that the shooter was a resident of the neighborhood who had confronted the victim because he believed he might be a burglar. However a clear motive has not yet been released.
"Definitely a crazy situation," neighbor Zack Rosenblatt added.
LAPD detectives are canvassing the area for possible surveillance footage that could help in the investigation.
