Ship-To-Ship Transfer Spills Some Diesel Into Long Beach Port
LONG BEACH (CBS) — The U.S. Coast Guard says a ship-to-ship fuel transfer spilled some diesel Saturday into the Port of Long Beach.
"The fuel was spilled by a tug boat that was transferring diesel to another vessel," Petty Officer Matthew Schofield said.
There was no firm estimate on how much fuel was spilled.
Schofield says officials believe no more than 15 gallons was spilled.
A Coast Guard environmental team responded to the scene and remains on site, but says there is no way to recover the spilled fuel.
"We just have to wait until it dissipates naturally," he said.
