Shaquille O'Neal To Meet With Orlando Magic For GM Position

LOS ANGELES (CBS) - Former Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal has emerged as a potential candidate to take over the general manager position for the Orlando Magic.

Shaq, who started his career in Orlando during the '92-'93 season, will meet with the Magic next week, according to ESPN

Shaq is currently on his first year as an NBA analyst for TNT.

The Los Angeles Lakers plan to hang his No. 34 jersey at Staples some time next season.

"We don't have any specific timetable on this, but you can be assured we will retire Shaq's jersey," said Lakers spokesman John Black in an email on Wednesday.  "We don't have a specific policy on it," Black wrote. "As you know, players have to wait five years to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but we could possibly do a jersey retirement ceremony for Shaq prior to that."

If Shaq does get the position, we could possibly see a trade that could send Dwight Howard to the team he retired with, the Los Angeles Lakers.
