Shaquille O'Neal Selected As 2016 NBA Hall Of Fame Finalist
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Former Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal has been named as one of the finalists for the NBA's Hall of Fame class of 2016.
O'Neal headlines the class with fellow former NBA-ers Allen Iverson and Yao Ming.
Former Suns guard Kevin Johnson, coaches Tom Izzo. Bo Ryan, Lefty Driessell, Eddie Sutton and Muffet McGraw were also named finalists.
Also named finalists were women's superstar Sheryl Swoopes, referee Darrel Garretson, high school coaches Leta Andrews and Robert Hughes, and John McClendon, the first African-American coach in a professional league.
O'Neal attributes a lot of his success to his surrogate father, who passed away in 2013.
"He told me one day this would happen, and I never believed him," O'Neal said of his mentor, Phillip Harrison.
