Sex Offender Convicted In Teen's Death Freed
SANTA ANA (CBS) — A man who admitted that he dumped an Orange County college student's body into the ocean was freed from prison Wednesday after serving half of his sentence.
John Burgess, 36, was sentenced to five years behind bars after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of 19-year-old Donna Jou.
Burgess, a convicted sex offender, confessed to giving Jou cocaine, heroin and alcohol at a party. He says he dumped her body in the ocean after finding her dead the next morning. Her body was never found.
"This criminal mastermind conned the system of justice and got away with murder," Reza Jou said in a news conference protesting Burgess' release Wednesday.
Jou was a pre-med student at Cal State University, San Diego at the time of her death.
