Monster Winter Storm Disrupts Air Travel At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Several passengers Friday who were attempting to travel from Los Angeles International Airport to the East Coast faced flight delays and cancellations due to severe blizzard conditions.

At this time, at least 40 flights that were scheduled to depart from LAX have been cancelled. Seven other flights were delayed.

According to airport police, the majority of the flight cancellations are currently affecting Baltimore, Charlotte, N.C. and Washington, D.C.

Thousands of other flights have been cancelled nationwide.

Passengers who are preparing to travel over the next several days should make sure to check flight statuses before heading to the airport.

Earlier this week, some airlines issued waivers to allow for passengers to rebook their flights in order to avoid the potentially paralyzing snow and ice.

Meanwhile, blizzard conditions have prompted city officials to declare a state of emergency on the East Coast.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported the Philadelphia International Airport will completely shut down on Saturday due to the impeding winter storm.

Around 77 million people are expected to feel the effects of traveling during the storm across the county.
