Several Southern California Agencies For Disabled Close Early As Precautionary Measure
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Facilities similar to the Inland Regional Center, where up to three gunmen killed at least 14 people Wednesday in a mass shooting, closed early out of an abundance of caution.
In a precautionary move, the Harbor Regional Center in Torrance closed for the day and posted a notice on its website that read: "There is no reason to expect that there could be any similar activity at any other regional center but in an abundance of caution Harbor Regional Center is closed for today. We will monitor the news, and our thoughts are with the staff and clients of IRC."
The North Los Angeles County Regional Center also closed its locations in Van Nuys, Santa Clarita and Lancaster. The Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center also closed, with officials saying "news of such an event is incomprehensible."
In Riverside, not far from the Inland Regional Center, the sheriff's department went on high alert to protect an office affiliated with the community social services agency, located at 1500 Iowa Ave., just off Marlborough Avenue, near downtown. Employees were seen leaving the property, apparently going home or to another location for the remainder of the day.
Federal and local authorities say the shooting is not believed to be a terrorist incident.
