Security Out In Full Force For USC-UCLA Game
PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Security will be out in full force Saturday for the USC-UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl.
The increased safety measures are in place to prevent fan violence between the infamous crosstown rivals.
In Dec. 2010, two men were stabbed during a melee that involved nearly 75 people in the Rose Bowl parking lot.
"It was an unfortunate situation. We had a a lot of tailgaters that did not come into the game. That will not be the case this year," said Lt. Phlunte Riddle from the Pasadena Police Department.
Authorities said weapons are not permitted anywhere near or in the stadium.
In addition, people are not allowed to bring alcohol, backpacks, laser pointers, or poles and sticks.
Police are also concerned about traffic because 90,000 people are expected to fill the stadium.
"If we can ask fans to come from the north of the Bowl, we can expedite parking," said Riddle.
Ticketholders are encouraged to arrive no later than 9 a.m. for the game and take public transportation, if possible.
