Security Measures Increased At Local Airports In Wake Of Boston Bombings
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — LAX and other Southland airports were under heightened security Tuesday in wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Officers with bomb-sniffing dogs were patrolling LAX even though no specific threat has been made to the Los Angeles-area.
"While there is no information to suggest that there is any nexus to the Los Angeles area, in an abundance of caution, Airport Police has increased its presence at LAX, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys airports by deploying bomb-detection canines, additional patrol officers and security personnel," according to a statement from Los Angeles World Airports.
Airport police are also working closely with federal and local law enforcement agencies to ensure the public's safety.
"I was just really scared. Everyone was really shocked and didn't know what was happening," Boston-to-Los Angeles passenger Nicole Gould said. "People didn't feel safe 'cause if it can happen there, it can happen anywhere."
Security has also been increased at the Port of Los Angeles as well as all Metro facilities, officials said.
No link between the Boston bombings and Southern California has been established.
