Suspect Arrested In Murder Of Security Guard Killed In Rancho Cucamonga Robbery
RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com) — Police on Sunday said a suspect was being questioned in the murder of a security guard during a robbery in Rancho Cucamonga.
The robbery unfolded at the Mini Mart in the 10000 block of Arrow Route about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, said Cpl. Randy Naquin of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
At the time, there were two clerks inside the store. However, one managed to run out and flag down a security guard, identified as 45-year-old Dean Vedol Sena of Placentia, KCAL9's Joy Benedict reports.
"As the suspect was getting ready to leave, a security guard had driven up after being flagged down by the first clerk that had exited," the corporal said.
Investigators say multiple shots were fired at Sena. The victim was rushed to San Antonio Community Hospital where he died.
"The security guard was armed but was not able to take his weapon out of his holster and was not able to fire any shots," Cpl. Naquin said.
The suspected shooter has been identified as 36-year-old Diego Dominguez of Rancho Cucamonga.
At about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, police said Dominguez was stopped and detained after leaving his residence in a vehicle. Detectives served search warrants on Dominguez's vehicles and his residence located in the 9900 block of Placer Street. Dominguez was arrested for the robbery and murder and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
The victim's partner told CBS2's Art Barron that Sena planned to leave the job in May for back surgery.
The investigation is continuing.
