Security Beefed Up At LAX Following Bin Laden's Death
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Passengers at LAX and other airports around the country are facing a travel alert Monday morning after the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
Security has been increased at Los Angeles International Airport, Ontario International Airport and Van Nuys Airport, according to Los Angeles World Airport officials, who declined to comment on what additional procedures or precautions have been implemented.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca says airports, harbors and transit systems remain the city's biggest targets.
Baca, who is activating the department's emergency bureau, says extra security measures may be added.
Al-Qaeda attempted to bomb LAX on New Year's Eve 1999.
Officials hope bin Laden's death serves as a reminder for travelers to report any activity that may be considered suspicious.
