Second Driver Allegedly Involved In Fatal Street Race Crash In Hawthorne Turns Himself In
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials said Thursday that a driver believed to have been involved in a deadly accident in Hawthorne last week while street racing turned himself in Tuesday.
Anthony Leon Holley, 40, is due to be arraigned in court Friday.
Authorities said he turned himself in shortly before midnight Tuesday, according to Hawthorne police investigator Sean Judd.
Holley was interviewed by investigators then taken into custody. The red Camaro he was allegedly driving at the time of the crash, which occurred just before 1 p.m. Friday, was later located in Fontana and impounded, Judd said.
Officials said Holley was charged with murder and vehicular manslaughter.
Alfredo Perez Davila, 23, of Hawthorne, who was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Davila was allegedly racing his Chevrolet Cobalt with a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Holley traveling north on Crenshaw Boulevard near 135th Street when he lost control of his car.
The Cobalt swerved across all of the traffic lanes before slamming into the median, according to Hawthorne police Lt. Ti Goetz. He said the force of the crash sent the Cobalt airborne, and it eventually landed on a Honda CRV heading south on Crenshaw.
The Honda's driver, Benjamin Golbin, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davila was treated for his injuries and then taken to the Hawthorne police station, where he was interviewed and then booked on suspicion of homicide.
Hawthorne police said the Camaro driver, allegedly Holley, fled.
Davila is being held in lieu of $1 million bail while awaiting a February court appearance.
