2 Suspects Arrested After Deputy-Involved Shooting In Norwalk
NORWALK (CBS) — Two men were arrested Monday after a deputy-involved shooting occurred in Norwalk during a traffic stop.
The shooting occurred after Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies stopped a car in the 12900 block of Hoxie Avenue around 3:45 a.m., according to sheriff's Sgt. Harry Drucker.
"The front passenger immediately got out of the vehicle and the deputy recognized him as a suspect in a recent shooting/attempted murder in the area," Sheriff's Lt. Al Reyes said. "The suspect attempted to draw a handgun from his waistband area and, fearing he was about to be shot at, the deputy fired several rounds from his duty weapon at the suspect."
Authorities said one suspect was taken into custody, uninjured, but the other fled on foot.
After a search of the area, the second suspect was taken into custody. The man had not been wounded, but he was bitten by a law enforcement dog, according to police.
"The suspect admitted he had discarded his gun while trying to escape," Reyes said, adding that deputies were searching for the weapon.
The suspects' names were not immediately released.
