Deputies conduct brief search for missing swimmer before learning it was a scuba diver

Crews conducted a brief search for a swimmer who they believed was missing near Hermosa Beach on Saturday, only to learn that it was as scuba diver. are searching for a swimmer who reportedly went missing near Hermosa Beach on Saturday.

They were alerted that the diver was last seen near The Strand but had not resurfaced, causing reports that someone had gone missing, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards. 

Both Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department helicopters and Los Angeles County Fire Department boats could be seen scouring the area with SkyCal overhead.

Firefighters say that they were conducting search patterns in hopes of locating the missing swimmer, while divers searched the water just north of King Harbor in Redondo Beach. 

At around 8:30 p.m., crews reported that the reported swimmer was actually a scuba diver who surfaced some point during their search. They were not in distress and the incident was closed at around 5:30 p.m.
