Search For Gunman Following Deputy-Involved Shooting In East LA
EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are looking for a gunman following a deputy-involved shooting in East LA Saturday.
Sheriffs were called to the area of Ditman Avenue and the 5 Freeway, reportedly in response to a malicious mischief call around 9:20 p.m.
A major containment area has been set up, officials said.
Reporting from the scene, KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo said the massive perimeter stretched several blocks to the west and east.
The Ditman Avenue off-ramp has also been closed.
The suspect was not wounded during the shooting. No deputies were injured.
CHP has been called to the scene to help search for the gunman.
Deputies responding to the scene said they saw the suspect's vehicle and had an exchange of gunfire.
The suspect is now on foot, authorities told Fajardo.
On the CBS2 News at 11 p.m. Saturday, Fajardo reported officials had just brought in an armored vehicle.
People who live and work within the search perimeter have been ordered to stay indoors.
Fajardo also spoke to a resident who was coming home from work. She told Fajardo she was tired and just wanted to go to bed.
"She's hoping for a speedy and peaceful resolution since she can't go home," Fajardo said.
