Police Identify Suspect Who Died In Monterey Park Gun Battle
MONTEREY PARK (CBS) — The search for a second suspect involved in a wild gun battle in Monterey Park has been called off.
One of the suspects, Edgar Battad, 63, of Monterey Park, was fatally wounded about 4 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. Three other people, including a police officer, were injured following a hit-and-run crash at Newmark and Garfield Sunday afternoon.
Two groups of men involved in the crash began fighting when investigators arrived at the scene just after 4 p.m.
Monterey Park police officer Gilbert Alvarez, 45, who suffered a gunshot wound, was hospitalized in good condition at County-USC Medical Center.
Authorities would not confirm if the second suspect was in custody or still at large.
