Search Continues For Man Who Allegedly Pointed Shotgun At Officers In South LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Sunday continued to search for a suspect who allegedly pointed a shotgun at officers in South Los Angeles.
Los Angeles police Sgt. Albert Gonzalez said officers from the 77th-area division of the LAPD were in an unmarked car and on routine patrol when they observed a pedestrian holding a shotgun in the area.
"As they attempted to make contact with the pedestrian, he turned toward the officers. Pointed the shotgun at the officers and an officer-involved shooting took place," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said it wasn't immediately clear if the suspect fired at officers.
"The suspect fled the location but he left behind the firearm which was recovered," the sergeant said.
The incident unfolded just before 1 a.m., according to Gonzalez. No officers were injured.
A perimeter was set up around the area as authorities searched for the suspect.
"They did conduct a search for this individual … they weren't able to locate him ... the suspect is still outstanding," the sergeant said.
