Police: Baby Found Safe After Being Abducted By Father In Leimert Park

LEIMERT PARK (CBSLA.com) — A 14-month-old girl was found safe Wednesday after she was reportedly abducted by her father in Leimert Park.

Raniyah Green was dropped off at her aunt's house sometime Wednesday morning just a day after she was taken from her grandmother's home in the 3300 block of Stocker Place, police said.

Her grandmother, Patty Pitchford, was babysitting her around 4 p.m. Tuesday when she said the baby's father, Randy Green, abducted her.

"I tried to grab the baby, and I couldn't handle him. He snatched the baby and took the baby," Pitchford recalled.

She immediately contacted police.

Wednesday morning, Green, who has a restraining order against him for domestic violence, called the baby's aunt and dropped her off at her Mid-City home.

"Blessed. Thank God I have her. It had been a nightmare," she said.

Raniyah's mother was unaware of the abduction until police tracked her down Tuesday night. She had been taken in custody in Newport Beach on an unrelated charge.

The search continued for Green, who police say is a known gang member with a criminal record.

He was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds.

He was driving a black, 2004 BMW X5 with California license plate number 7GYU146.

An Amber Alert was not issued because police said there was no indication of any danger or threat to the child.
