Search Continues For Couple Accused In Attempted Murder Of Deputy
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — The search continued Monday for a husband and wife accused of shooting at and wounding a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in South El Monte.
The deputy-involved shooting at Durfee Avenue and Peck Road occurred just before 9 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities say 24-year-old Darnell Washington escaped from San Bernardino County Jail on Aug. 28. He is 6 feet, 2 inches and weighs 197 pounds.
His wife, 25-year-old Tania Washington, is accused of helping him. She is 5 foot, 3 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds.
Both are suspected to have been involved in a carjacking over the weekend in South El Monte.
According to investigators, Darnell allegedly shot a Temple Station deputy, who is now recovering.
The pair may be traveling in a carjacked blue, 1996 Plymouth Voyager van with license plate 3PHK484, officials said. They are also suspected of previously carjacking another vehicle which was found abandoned in South Gate.
