Scully: Wasn't Making Decision(To Retire), I Was Misconstrued
(LOS ANGELES CBSLA.com) Recently during an interview on KPCC radio, Scully said, as he put it, "I'm looking to next year and thinking that should be about it."
However, later in the day Wednesday, the Hall Of Famer Told The LA Times, "I wasn't making a declaration. I guess it was misconstrued. Each year is my last, until the next one. I never say yes or no." WHEW!
So Scully has yet to decide when he'll retire. The month he'll make a decision to move forward will be in the middle of the season like June or July.
The 84-year-old Hall of Famer, who started with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950, signed another one-year deal to be the sportscaster for the Boys in Blue.
Scully said he and his wife, who he called "absolutely the strength of my life," talked before he made his decision to return.
"She said, `I know you love it and you're happiest when you do it, so why not do it again?'", Scully said, adding that he would not have returned if "my enthusiasm was waning" or if his wife wanted him to retire .
The voice of the Dodgers will not only be back for the 2014 season, but will travel with the Dodgers throughout their postseason play this season.
Scully will call the first three innings and the last three for postseason play which could heard on AM570.
