Schwarzenegger's Mistress Breaks Her Silence
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's longtime housekeeper, mistress and mother of an out-of-wedlock child publicly talked about her child's paternity for the first time in a published interview.
Mildred Baena told the British magazine "Hello!" that she didn't realize the actor and former governor was her son's father until he got older and began to look like him. The magazine article includes a posed photo of Baena and her 13-year-old son, Joseph.
"It was as Joseph grew and I started to see the resemblance that I wondered -- but it became more apparent as time went on," Baena told the magazine.
"I knew Arnold was the father, and maybe as Joseph got older and began to look like him, he (Schwarzenegger) wondered. But he never said anything to me," she said.
Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, announced their separation after 25 years of marriage in May. The couple have four children.
The former governor later admitted that he had fathered a child with the couple's longtime housekeeper.
Baena says her son wants to build a relationship with his father. She said he reacted with one word when he learned who his father was: "Cool!"
She told the magazine she suspected Shriver had figured out what happened.
"She would say things like, 'I'm here if you need to talk,"' Baena said. "I sensed something was up. I have so much love and respect for Maria. Finally, she asked point blank."
Baena said she was surprised by Shriver's reaction when she admitted her now-13-year-old son was fathered by Schwarzenegger.
"She was so strong," she said. "She cried with me and told me to get off my knees. We held each other and I told her it wasn't Arnie's fault, that it takes two."
