School Police Officer Gets 2 Years In Shooting Hoax
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Los Angeles Unified School District police officer was sentenced to two years in jail Wednesday for faking his own shooting.
Jeff Stenroos claimed that he was shot Jan. 19 while on patrol outside El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills.
He told authorities that he was sitting in his patrol car when a burglar came up and shot him in the leg, prompting the largest lockdown in Los Angeles history.
Stenroos eventually admitted he accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning his gun.
He apologized in court Wednesday, saying he only wanted to be an outstanding officer.
He will likely serve just a few more months in jail due to overcrowding.
