Santa Monica, Wilmington Host Free World Cup Viewing Parties

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — No event brings the world together quite like the World Cup.

As soccer fans across the globe await the final game between Argentina and Germany, those in Southern California are invited to come together at free viewing parties in Santa Monica and Wilmington.

Live music and entertainment begins at 11 a.m. at Santa Monica Place with a party that flaunts Samba dancers and demos by freestyle soccer players. There will be prizes and face-painting and families are encouraged.

The festivities start in Wilmington at 10 a.m. in the Waterfront Park near C Street and Neptune Avenue. Soccer-themed activities will be held before the game and local restaurants will be serving up plenty of food.

Those attending the Wilmington party must bring a blanket or a low-profile lawn chair or beach chair for sitting. Coolers will be allowed, but pop-up tents, grills and barbecues are prohibited, as are drugs and alcohol. Los Angeles Port Police officers will be on patrol throughout the day.

The ABC telecast of the game from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil will be shown on a 33-foot wide, 19-foot tall HD screen and is scheduled to begin at noon.
