Lockdown Lifted At Santa Monica College Campus
SANTA MONICA (CBS) — Police have lifted a lockdown at Santa Monica College that began with a telephone report of an armed man on the Southern California campus.
Police found no immediate sign of a gunman, according to Santa Monica police Lt. Kathy Keane.
Santa Monica police initially received a 911 call, which was transferred from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, from the mother of a student who stated her daughter got off a campus elevator and heard two shots and glass breaking, officials said.
Santa Monica College Police then received three calls around 11 a.m. about an armed man on campus, according to spokesperson Bruce Smith.
The Santa Monica Police Department assisted college police in the search for the gunman. No evidence of a shooting or suspect was found.
Classes are not in session due to summer break, however students were on campus in preparation for the upcoming school year at the time of the lockdown.
