Santa Clarita Teen Admits To Lying About Being Raped
SANTA CLARITA (AP) — A 16-year-old Southern California girl says she lied about being raped because she feared getting in trouble for arriving home late.
The teenager told Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday night that she was walking on a bike path in the Santa Clarita Valley when she was grabbed by two men, knocked unconscious and raped.
Deputies flooded the area in a search for the suspects and administrators at a nearby school alerted teachers and parents.
City News Service says the girl recanted her story on Wednesday afternoon.
She told detectives she made up the story because she had arrived home late and did not want to get in trouble with her legal guardians.
The investigation is continuing and it's unclear if there will be charges.
