'Lookout' Fire In Santa Barbara 75 Percent Contained
SANTA BARBARA (CBSLA.com) — The "Lookout" fire near the Painted Cave area of Santa Barbara was 75 percent contained as of Thursday morning.
The fire broke out around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday and has burned just over 40 acres, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
KNX 1070's Jon Baird reported Wednesday that 40 homes in the area were evacuated.
Officials said three engine strike teams and hands crews – a total of 150 personnel – battled the flames overnight.
Two firefighters were injured, according to authorities.
Ten engines, three water tenders, eight hand crews, two dozers, seven helicopters and three air tankers ready and available from Santa Maria Airport will try to fully contain the fire on Thursday, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Officials predict to have the fire fully contained by 6 p.m. Friday.
Painted Cave Road and East Camino Cielo Roads will continue to only be open to residents, and Highway 154 is open, but officials recommend using caution due to fire equipment in the area.
The investigation into the cause will continue Thursday.
