Santa Ana Winds To Lash Southland Through Thursday
FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Strong Santa Ana winds will hit the Southland Wednesday.
A high wind warning, with gusts of at least 58 mph, will be in effect in the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains until 2 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
A wind advisory was also in effect for the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys where gusts were expected to reach 55 mph.
In San Bernardino County, officials have staffed an additional hand crew in case of a brush fire and suspended all burning permits until Saturday.
"There's a potential for, in this wind, for a fire to get away from us. It's definitely a concern for us today," Capt. Kyle Hauducoeur said.
CBS2's Tom Wait, reporting from Fontana, said the wind conditions are cause for alarm for CalFire San Bernardino.
The dry winds, coupled with high temperatures, were creating fire dangers around the Inland Empire.
