Santa Ana Man Gets 11 Years For Road-Rage Killing

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An Orange County man who killed another driver in a road-rage incident has been sentenced to 11 years in state prison.

Thirty-one-year-old Duy Thanhle Tieu of Santa Ana was sentenced Tuesday for the 2009 death of George McCafferty. He pleaded no contest in February to voluntary manslaughter.

Authorities say Tieu and McCafferty exchanged words on Interstate 605 in Long Beach. Tieu then got back into his car and drove toward McCafferty, who was standing outside his car on the freeway off-ramp.

The Orange County Register says Tieu's car hit McCafferty's vehicle, pinning him in the door.

The 53-year-old Long Beach man was injured and died at the scene.

Tieu's public defender, Jack Keenan, has said it's unclear what prompted the confrontation.
