Blind Sea Lion Is Eating San Pedro Sea Mammal Center Out Of House And Aquarium
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It costs $100 a day to feed Big Guy, a 750-pound, blind sea lion that has been living at Southern California's Marine Mammal Care Center for 15 months.
That isn't the main reason he has to leave though. The San Pedro center is a hospital, not a hotel, and they've done all they can for him except find him a new home. If the search doesn't succeed soon, he will have to be euthanized.
Veterinarian Laura Palmer says she decided to help Big Guy because he was gentle and she thought she could find a zoo or aquarium to take him. She's been looking for a year.
The center has 70 animals and spokeswoman Jill Romano says Big Guy has been there longest and eats the most.
