2 Brothers Dead In San Pedro Shooting
SAN PEDRO (CBSLA) — Two brothers are dead after being shot in San Pedro.
The shooting happened at about 9:45 p.m. and neighbors called police to report gunfire in the 400 block of West Santa Cruz. Officers arriving at the scene found two men in their 20s who had been shot several times.
Jason Agustin Montes, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother, Justin Antonio Montes, 27, was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. The men were reported to be brothers, but CBS2 had yet to confirm whether they were related.
Family and friends who came to the scene of the shooting were too distraught to speak to reporters.
Detectives say they are still trying to determine the motive for this shooting and do not have a description for the gunman.
Just a few hours later, about a mile away, a third man was wounded in another shooting near 11th and Palos Verdes streets at about 1:30 a.m. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police say they believe this shooting was gang-related.
"We've had a lot of shootings in the area lately," resident David Pisunyer said. "I don't really feel as safe as I used to in San Pedro, to be frank."
