Golfers Jump At Chance To Tee Off At San Diego's Petco Park
SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — San Diego's Petco Park, home to the San Diego Padres, is being transformed into a nine-hole golf course this week and thousands of people have already lined up to tee off.
The Padres and Callaway have joined forces to turn Petco Park into a 1,002-yard, par-3 course Thursday through Monday.
Initially, "The Links at Petco Park" was a four-day event open to the first 144 golfers who signed up, Golf Digest reports. Tickets quickly sold out and the wait list ran long so organizers extended the off-season event by another day and accommodated more than 1,500 people. The event sold out again.
For $50 each, pairs of players get to hit drop-wedge shots from all sorts of locations throughout the stadium and field. That fee includes parking, a hat and the opportunity to play with Callaway wedges. There's a VIP package for $200 where buyers get to take home a wedge imprinted with a Padres logo and tickets to a 2016 Padres game for each golfer.
But what makes the experience especially appealing for Padre fans is that you get to walk in the players' shoes: you get to warm up in the Padres indoor batting cages, walk through the locker room and down the tunnel to the dugout, Gold Digest reports. From there, imagine standing at home plate and getting to hit a 110-yard shot toward the center field fence.
Each hole has a different theme and a unique prize for participants who make the shot.
After completing the course, you get to relax in The Loft, which will be transformed into the Callaway clubhouse with food and drinks and the chance to buy commemorative items.
It looks like it's going to be a dream come true for baseball fans who also like to hit the links.
Hopefully, Dodger Stadium will consider putting on a similar event.
