SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — The attack on Wednesday at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino was the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. At least 14 people were killed and at least 17 people were injured.

The Inland Regional Center is a social services facility that provides social services such as work programs and training to about 30,200 people in Riverside and San Bernardino County with intellectual or developmental disabilities such as autism or epilepsy. The facility has 670 employees.
The center's employees create programs and advocates for legislative changes to serve its constituents. The center also diagnoses people with disabilities and assesses eligibility for state services on behalf of clients.
The non-profit center is run by the state, has been open for 44 years and is the largest such regional center in California.
The shooting appeared to have targeted a holiday party at the facility involving employees of the San Bernardino County Department Of Health in a portion of a building that is open to community events. One of the suspects, identified as Syed Farook, was an employee of the county health department.
