San Bernardino Officer Injured, Homicide Suspect Killed In Shooting
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA) — The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department was investigating Tuesday after a fatal shooting involving San Bernardino Police Department officers.
According to a tweet from the police department, officers were involved in a shooting Tuesday afternoon that left a suspect dead and an officer injured.
The shooting happened off of Baseline Street, near Elm Street in the city of Highland while officers were attempting to arrest a suspect with a warrant for homicide, according to the department.
According to police, Shyheed Robert Boyd was wanted in connection with the death of Donte Dejuan Carr. Officers were attempting to arrest Boyd when he allegedly ran in an attempt to escape. While he was running, the department said he turned around and opened fire on the officers with a handgun — striking an injuring one.
Officers returned fire on the man, striking him. Boyd was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The injured officer was treated an released.
Family members of the man showed up at the scene of the shooting Tuesday evening.
"I had six boys, and now I only have five," Ieshea Boyd, the man's mother, said. "And there's a part of my heart that's gone right now, and I don't know how I'm gonna get that back."
