San Bernardino Man, 71, Victim Of Sidewalk Attack

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Police say a 71-year-old San Bernardino man was shot in the teeth by a man who walked up to him, asked about a cigarette then opened fire.

Lt. Jarrod Burguan told the San Bernardino Sun that the victim was taking a walk at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday when the gunman approached him, said something about a cigarette and fired.

The first bullet hit the victim in the teeth. Burguan said three to five more shots were fired as the victim fled, but they all missed.

Police say the gunman ran the opposite direction and was last seen meeting up with several people who fled together.

Burguan says the victim was taken to a hospital but he was conscious, breathing and talking.
