A man was shot and wounded while defending his teenage brother who was being assaulted in Yucaipa over the weekend, authorities said.

It happened at around 7 p.m. on Sunday at the La Casita Mobile Home Park, located in the 33800 block of Avenue G, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found the victim, only identified as a 21-year-old man, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

"During the investigation, deputies learned the victim was driving to his residence when he witnessed a fellow resident of the mobile home park ... physically assaulting his 17-year-old brother," the department release said.

The victim intervened, trying to protect his brother from the alleged attacker, whom deputies identified as 60-year-old Kris Morgan.

"After the altercation, Morgan threatened to kill the victim with a gun and went into his home," the release said. "Moments later, Morgan emerged from his home armed with a silver revolver and began firing at the victim and his brother."

Deputies say that the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is said to be in stable condition.

While investigating the shooting, deputies say they saw Morgan leaving his residence while still holding the revolver. Once they made contact with him he dropped the weapon and was taken into custody. While serving a search warrant at his home they found eight firearms, including the gun used in the shooting.

Morgan was booked for attempted murder and is being held in lieu of $2,300,000 bail.

Anyone who knows more on the incident is asked to contact SBSD at (909) 918-2305.
