Sailor From Bin Laden Mission Welcomed Home In Palmdale
PALMDALE (CBS) — A sailor, who was part of the team that buried Osama bin Laden at sea, was welcomed home in Palmdale Friday.
The community greeted Navy Chief Petty Officer Jay Mapson and thanked him for his service.
"It's very important to welcome home all of our young men and women now. We don't want them to be forgotten; we want to let them know that people back here support them one-hundred percent," said Patriot Guard Captain Larry Miller.
Mapson, a single father of two boys, had been deployed for six months.
He was stationed on the USS Carl Vinson, the ship that disposed of bin Laden's body in the North Arabian Sea.
Mapson has served in the Navy for 14 years.
