Runway Electrical Outage At Burbank Airport Forces Flight Cancellations
BURBANK (CBS/AP) — Some flights scheduled to depart from Bob Hope Airport in Burbank were canceled because of an electrical outage that left a runway in the dark on Thursday.
Airport spokesman Victor Gill said the electrical system has been under repair all day after the runway lights went out Wednesday night.
Gill said it's unknown when the electricity will be restored.
A runway is still operational for arriving flights.
Sky9's Stu Mundel said it's up to the pilots if they want to take off on a dark runway.
Aggravated passengers wanted to know why they weren't notified about the problem ahead of time.
Tom Benson of Canyon Country said he was already seated on his Vegas-bound JetBlue flight when the captain told them they couldn't take off because of some "issues."
"It's frustrating because I think the lights were out before we boarded the plane. They didn't tell us. They thought they were going to go over there and fix it and it'd be done," he said.
Travelers are advised to keep in touch with their airlines for the latest flight information.
